New York to Atlanta Comparison Group
Summary
Per capita, the number of burglaries in Atlanta far outnumber those in New York city. A thorough review of the difference between New York city and Atlanta may help the Board create specific concrete suggestions for reducing burglaries in Atlanta.
Research City Distinctions
There are obvious distinctions that should be reviewed to rule out or consider when making a comparison such as:
- Infrastructure- city size and layout or government organization,
- Legislation – laws employed in the city that discourage or reduce crime,
- Sentencing –
- Police Force- manpower, strategies, organization, arrest rates
- Statistics – Burglary types and locations, trends
Meet with City Leaders
In addition to the hard stats, Board members will need to talk directly with current and former City leaders in New York. Former Police commissioner William Bratton; Chamber of Commerce; New York Authority, etc.
Compile Report
The board will then be tasked to review their findings and compile a report that gives specific suggestions that can be implemented in Atlanta. The suggestions should be based on the data obtained from the comparison as well as meetings with City leaders. Example- employ camera system in high crime areas.
OUTCOME
